The #1 Michael Jackson Impersonator is…

March 12, 2017 • By

Congratulations to Rodrigo Teaser for winning the MJVibe Poll for #1 Michael Jackson Impersonator.

With 2,313 votes out of 9,595, Rodrigo secured 1st place, which is 24.1% of the votes out of 45 impersonators.

The poll finally offered Michael’s fans the chance to vote on who was their favourite impersonator. So often many have claimed to be the ‘World’s Number 1’ but never specified according to whom. As fans, we’d never been asked to take a vote, so we decided it was time to offer up that opportunity.

Photo of Michael Jackson in Exhibition in London

March 11, 2017 • By

Chiswick-based artist Robert Ellis has spent his life photographing pop legends and rock stars for prestigious publications such as the New Musical Express and Melody Maker.

And now an exhibition of his work is display at local vinyl cafe Rhythm & Brews, which will run for 3 months. The walls are now adorned with a fascinating selection of images, ranging from Mick Jagger strutting his stuff on stage, to David Bowie, Genesis, Blondie, Elton John, Stevie Wonder and Prince.

There is also a striking image of a ten-year old Michael Jackson looking pensively into the camera.
“Every picture tells a story and when I look at them, each and every one tells me something, the good, the bad and the ugly.”

John Singleton Remembers Working With Michael Jackson

March 8, 2017 • By

On “THe Real” show, director John Singleton talks about his new BET show, “Rebel,” his 1991 directorial debut “Boyz In the Hood,” and how a friend’s prank resulted in him directing Michael Jackson’s “Remember The Time” video.

Loni Love: You directed Michael Jackson’s music video “Remember The Time.” Did he personally call you about that?

John Singleton: No, no, it started as a prank. It was a friend of mine, he’s no longer with us. His name is Lloyd Avery II. He’s the guy who shoots Ricky in Boyz n the Hood. He’s from my neighborhood and he called me up late at night. He did a high voice like Michael Jackson… I was like half asleep. I was like, “Fine, whatever. I’ll call you tomorrow. Is this really Michael?” “Yes!” He said, “Call me tomorrow, right.” So I call my agent and said, “Michael Jackson called me out of the blue saying you know, “”He wanted to meet with me. Can you go see what he wants?” They called Michael Jackson. Michael Jackson called me for a meeting and said, “Hey, I wanted to talk to you about doing a video.” I said, “You called me right?” He says, “No, I didn’t call you.” He said he thought his manager Sandy Gallin called me. But Michael said, “No, I didn’t call you.” And then we found out it was my friend Lloyd.

When Michael Jackson Needed A Guitar Solo, He Called The First Lady Of Shred

March 7, 2017 • By

She is the hellraiser whirling around the King of Pop in the climax of Moonwalker — the cat-suited punk sporting a pointy guitar and an explosion of peroxide blonde. She prowls the stage with Michael Jackson in concert footage from 1987, wearing a three-foot mohawk and a light-up fiber-optic suit, topped only by the guitar solo she unfurls in “Beat It.” She is Jennifer Batten, a guitarist who spent a decade touring the planet with Jackson in support of albums like Bad and Dangerous. Twenty years after their last concert, Batten is still in awe of the energy he brought to the stage. “Every drum hit, Michael did something with his body,” she says. “Most people, if they did that for one song, they would have to take a nap.”
