Michael Jackson by Michael Putland

An extraordinary collection of images, shot by one of the UK’s top music photographer, gives an intriguing glimpse into the lives of some of the world’s most iconic musicians.

David Bowie doing a spot of DIY, George Michael asleep on a train and John Lennon relaxing with Yoko Ono at home are just some of the intimate moments captured in the photographs.

The incredible images are all the work of music photographer Michael Putland, 68, and have been exclusively released to the MailOnline ahead of an exhibition, Off the Record, running in East Sussex next month.

Putland’s impressive list of subjects also includes Michael Jackson, whom he shot several times.

Remembering a shoot with the star at a concert in 1972, when Jackson was just 14, Putland says: ‘He was so young, fun and relaxed backstage, and he turned into a human dynamo as soon as his feet touched the stage.’
