Here’s the ‘Angry Birds’ Movie Trailer, Set to Michael Jackson’s BAD!

It’s got voice-acting action from Maya Rudolph, Danny McBride, Bill Hader, Keegan-Michael Key, Kate McKinnon and more.

Six years and 3 billion downloads (completely serious) later, the mobile time-killer turned worldwide franchise known as Angry Birds is getting Hollywood-ed. Today’s our first look at exactly how much the movie will resemble the game, and we’re impressed. The requisite narrativizing is in place: Why are the birds so mad? How do their specific demolition abilities translate to personality traits? When did the green pigs come into the picture, and how’d they become the natural enemy to all irate avians?Watch the Angry Birds trailer above. It lands in theaters in May 2016.

The roll call of voice actors is unreal: Maya Rudolph, Frozen’s Josh Gad, Danny McBride, Bill Hader, Keegan-Michael Key, Tony Hale, Kate McKinnon and Jason Sudeikis. Even in an age where Pixar and DreamWorks score top-notch talent every time around, this one seems extra flashy.

Best of all is the evidence that this won’t be a just-because adaptation, but will actually retain the impact-heavy, slingshot-happy mechanics that made Angry Birds great in the first place. And if Michael Jackson is soundtracking the trailer, we can probably hope for solid tuneage in the actual movie.
