Oliver ‘Brick’ Price was friends with Michael for over 10 years working on numerous projects including Moonwalker and the creation of Neverland. In Issue 16 of Iconic Magazine, we spoke in length to Brick about his friendship with Michael…Here is a small, edited excerpt from that interview :

Did you teach him about 3D or was he clued up about it already?
He didn’t really know anything about the technical aspects!  I’d show him some stuff I made and I built him a 3D camera using 2 Nikon Cameras.  It was amazing and the images were stunning!  Anyway, he liked the camera I built for him and I showed him how to use it.  He was incredibly sharp and picked up on it right away.  He loved learning.

What’s your fondest memory of being on the Moonwalker set?
Wow!   So many!  I often sat in the trailer with Michael during Moonwalker. He had met my kids at that point and they really liked him and so we often went to the Ranch even before the park was built.  He commented one time, and I think this was the best compliment I’ve ever had, that I (Brick) ‘must be a great father’ based of what he observed.  I thanked him profusely and it really touched me because I was with him on a professional basis and it was a very personal moment.

When did the Neverland project start to take shape?
I don’t know when it “officially” became ‘Neverland Valley Ranch’, as such, but we designed and carved the wood signs that were placed on the grounds.  He wanted fiberglass replicas so they would be more durable against the harsh weather.

It was a place it seemed that he could be completely himself…
It was a retreat for him but it was intended to care for children who needed help.

What was Michael like to ‘hang out’ with?
We were going out to public places once in a while and people were recognising him, which was funny!  We went to a show and people were looking at him and he said “People are staring at me, do you think they know who I am?” and I said: “Michael, you are wearing a surgical mask and you have 3 huge bodyguards with you!” [Laugh]  That was before he became famous for wearing a mask!
