An artist has spent three months creating an incredible portrait of Michael Jackson made from just string and nails. The mesmerising video footage shows the portrait being made by a talented artist as it starts out as a formation of nails before the string is manipulated into place. The final product bears a striking resemblance to the late pop superstar and uses up to 15,000 nails to create the look.

The unconventional portrait is the work of artist Zenovii Palagniuk, 21, from Chortkov in Ukraine. Discussing his work, he said: ‘We see how unique art can be when it is made from threads and nails.

‘When most people think about art, they think about paintings on a wall, or sculptures in a garden. It’s easy to appreciate art of well-done paintings and sculptures, but how about contemporary art, which also brings emotions into our life. I have always been looking for something unique.’

The portrait took Zenovii three months to make but it was a labour of love for the young artist.

‘I love the feeling of string on my hands during the process and the outstanding visual effect as a result,’ he said. ‘It was made in loving memory of a person who brought beautiful music in our life.

‘Usually people express their thoughts, give compliments and then they ask, “how could you possibly know where to wrap the thread at?” That’s funny to me.’

Zenovii credits his grandfather for igniting his love of art, which ultimately led to him moving to America to study.

‘I first discovered art from my grandfather,’ he said. ‘A few years later I became aware of the importance and the impact of art in my life. At 16 I entered Kosovo State Institute of Applied and Decorative Arts of Lviv National Arts Academy. ‘I studied there for three years, participating in a lot of art competitions and events. At 19 years old I moved to the US as a student to continue my education.’
